2022 SW ASSP Mentorship Program Kicks Off with a Bang

The SW ASSP Mentorship Program officially kicked off on Monday, September 19th.

The SW ASSP Mentorship Program partners with Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s ASSP Student Section in Durant, OK, each semester. The ASSP student section consistently places among the nation’s best and accumulates thousands of dollars in scholarships yearly. Southeastern Occupational Safety students have earned over $175,000 in national scholarships and grants in the past five years alone. Additionally, the student section hosts monthly technical meetings on the first Tuesday at 2:00 pm and monthly field trips to industrial and construction sites, provides professional development opportunities, and participates in community activities.

Each Fall and Spring semester, the SW ASSP Chapter’s Student Section Liaison speaks on Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s campus to introduce and recruit students for the Mentorship Program. This semester, we had 14 students sign up to be mentees.

The program aims to connect students to a vast community of great people who can help them better navigate the safety profession and solidify their career path while forming lifelong friendships that can help them grow personally and professionally. The students who signed up this semester have vast, interdisciplinary interests, including:

  • Industrial hygiene
  • Construction
  • Manufacturing
  • Aviation
  • Risk
